Internet Upgrade While being Down

The Motorola DOCSIS 3.0 Extreme Cable Modem

Recently, I’ve had a … not so good experience with Suddenlink Internet; however, they have been working on upgrading the internet.  For those that don’t know, Suddenlink has increased their service from 3mbs to 10mbs, and at no extra cost.  If you had the 3mbs service then you were automatically updated to the 10mbs.  That’s awesome right?

Well, aside from my areas’ woes (flooding of the main box) it is a pretty good deal, but in order to take advantage of the new update you’ll need a modem that is compatible with the new DOCSIS 3.0 system.  So for those of you, like me, that bought a cable modem from Wal-Mart … well, your modem will work, but it won’t be able to take advantage of all the cool upgrade stuff such as better channel bonding, higher security, greater connectivity.  I know ….  I wish I would’ve been told of the upgrade ahead of time as well.  It woulda saved me 80 bucks.

Now for those of you that are leasing a modem from suddenlink then you’ll really have to look up the modem yourself to see if it is DOCSIS 3.0.  Don’t bother calling the service line …. why? … well, not only could they tell me if mine was compatible but they really didn’t even know what I was talking about …. DOCSIS WHAT?

So, don’t be so sure that your cable modem is DOCSIS 3.0 ready to go.  I just switched to Suddenlink last month (got tired of not getting what I was paying for with AT&T …. commies) and the modem they gave me, the cisco 2100 cable modem is NOT DOCSIS 3.0 ready … imagine that.  I will be trying to get my money back on that one.

If you’re wondering what cable modem I bought to take full advantage of the upgrade then here it is:  Motorola SB6120 SURFboard DOCSIS 3.0 extreme broadband cable modem … yeah it’s a lot to say.  Amazon.com had it to me in one day.  Again …. WALMART DOES NOT HAVE DOCSIS 3.0 modems (neither does Radio Shack).

Well, that’s all I have for you at this time on the issue.  Oh… and by the way; although I’ve been having trouble with my Suddenlink service during this time, I will have to say that the Suddenlink Customer Service Center is WAAAAAAAAAAY better than AT&T’s ).
